FIRE ON MCDONAL ISLAND
Early Easter Sunday, 2:00am, The Harsens Island Fire Dept was called
to a grass fire on McDonald Island, the fire consumed approx 100 acres
of marsh, across from Brown's down to Minnich's, from Middle Channel
to Fisher Bay, the fire was contained before reaching 2 cottages. Clay
Township, Algonac and Ira Township fire departments were dispatched
to assist, the New Baltimore Fire Department manned Ira's hall. Approximately
20 firefighters, using brooms and Indian packs (these are packs of water
carried on the back with a pump to shoot water), took several hours
to fight this fire. Boats were used to shuttle firemen back and forth,
Jeff Alexander volunteered his services and his boat to transport firemen.Thankfully
no injuries were reported, and no personal property was destroyed.

DELAY AT FERRY
This morning at approximately 6:00 - 6:40am, there was a 20 - 30 minute
delay at the ferry. Apparently the ferry was having some technical difficulties,
the morning school bus was taken off the ferry. However, once Mr. Bryson
arrived on the scene the problem was corrected, now the ferry line is
diminishing, and you should be good to go. When we find out exactly what
the problem was we will let you know ! Tuesday - April 6 - 6:59am
- The School Bus is running on Time !
Update - Seems there was a problem with the steering which was quickly
corrected ! - 7:22am
FAMILY OF SWANS
At this time of year, every year, a pair of swans return to their St.
John's Marsh home. Without fail they are back in their home on the Marsh,
which is always a sure sign of spring. The female swan is diligently sitting
on her nest while the male collects food and keeps an ever watchful eye
out for trouble, never venturing very far from the nest. Last year they
had 3 babies so we are anxious to see what this year brings. Next time
you are driving down the Dyke road, not too far from the colony tower,
you will see them, the male is typcially in the water and if you look
close, the female is on her nest nearby. They are truly a beautiful sight.
